US Stocks Rise Amid Oil Price Drop, Chipmakers' Concerns
The US stock market mostly rose on Tuesday as oil prices continued to ease despite concerns about chipmakers' profits.
The S&P 500 added 0.2%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 537 points, or 1%, but the Nasdaq composite slipped 0.2% after briefly dropping 9.3% below its record set last month.
Coca-Cola climbed 5% after its revenue rose 7%, and Sherwin-Williams rallied 8.3% after both reported stronger earnings for the latest quarter than analysts expected.
However, chipmakers like Micron Technology dropped 8.9% and Advanced Micro Devices fell 8.1% due to worries about whether their growth is sustainable, particularly with big spenders on computer memory potentially pulling back if AI doesn't produce as promised.
