US Stocks Soar as Big Companies Post Impressive Profits
The US stock market is on track to reach new heights as major companies continue to post impressive profits and oil prices ease. The S&P 500 climbed 0.5% early Tuesday, bringing it closer to its all-time closing high set in June. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 788 points from its previous record, while the Nasdaq composite rose 0.9%. Palantir Technologies led the charge with a 18% jump after reporting a 93% gain in revenue and increasing its revenue forecast for the full year.
The drop in oil prices was also a contributing factor to the market's rise, with Brent crude falling 2.8%. Treasury yields also declined. Outside of the energy sector, companies such as McDonald's reported strong profits and named new leadership.
President Trump's comments on oil company profits may have contributed to the decline in oil prices. He criticized big oil companies for making excessive profits and called on them to lower their retail prices. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also weighed in, stating that the US is in talks with Iran and there is a chance for a deal to be reached within 24 hours.
The yen's value rose after regulators stepped in to boost its value following a decline to nearly 40-year lows. Analysts noted that while this intervention may have some impact, it does not address the fundamental economic reasons behind the currency fluctuations.
