US Stocks Tumble as Oil Prices Soar and Inflation Concerns Grow
The US stock market closed lower on Tuesday due to rising oil prices and concerns about inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 628.18 points, or 1.18%, to finish at 52,786.07. This was the second consecutive decline for the index.
Rising oil prices were a major concern for investors, with US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude increasing by 2.8% to $94 per barrel. International benchmark Brent crude also rose, trading around $99.
The higher energy prices led to increased concerns about inflation and its potential impact on interest rates. Markets are awaiting the release of US producer and consumer inflation data later this week, which is expected to influence expectations for the Federal Reserve's September 15-16 meeting.
