US Strikes Back at Iran with Aerial Assault on Oil Carriers
The US military has launched retaliatory strikes against three Iranian oil carriers in response to attacks on two US Navy warships. The strikes were carried out by U.S. Central Command (Centcom) and targeted crude oil carriers located near Kharg Island and in the Gulf of Oman.
No US service members were harmed during the Iranian attacks, according to Centcom. In a statement, Centcom Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said that the US would not hesitate to defend American forces, and if necessary, destroy Iran's limited and exposed oil fleet.
The exchange of hostilities follows escalating military operations from both sides this week. The effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz has placed a strain on the global energy supply, raising fuel costs for US consumers.
