The US military has struck five Iranian oil tankers in response to Iranian missile attacks on an American warship. The vessels, targeted in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island, were part of a multi-billion-dollar shadow network that finances Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to the US Central Command (Centcom).

The Iranian military had fired 20 missiles towards a US military base in Jordan, but Jordanian air defense systems intercepted 18 of them. Two missiles landed in unpopulated areas, causing no harm to American troops.

Iran's navy also seized an underwater survey drone that the US said was malfunctioning and carried no sensitive data. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of commercial shipping in the region.
