US Strikes Five Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Missile Attacks
The United States military confirmed that it struck five Iranian crude oil tankers in retaliation for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launching ballistic missiles at two American warships on consecutive days.
The strikes, carried out over several days, targeted multiple vessels, including the M/T Downy, which was permanently disabled, and the M/T Kylo, which was completely destroyed. Two additional tankers were struck in the following days, bringing the total to five.
CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated that the intent behind the strikes was to impose an even higher economic cost on Iran if it continued to target American forces. 'If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost, taking out three of yours,' he said.
