US President Donald Trump's warning of 'major military punishment' for Iran and its Houthi allies in Yemen has led to a series of retaliatory strikes. US missiles struck targets across Iran, including a Revolutionary Guards Navy headquarters and several ports.

The attacks came after the Houthi fighters targeted two Saudi tankers in the Red Sea's Bab el-Mandeb strait, boosting oil prices 7% to $100 per barrel for the first time since May. The strikes have also led to an increase in shipping insurance costs through the southern Red Sea.

The US and Iran have been engaged in a war of words, with Trump considering relaunching major combat against Iran. Iranian media cited the head of Iran's top joint military command as saying that Iran would kill a member of the US forces for every Iranian killed.
