US Strikes Iran, Killing 18, as Regional Tensions Escalate
Iran's Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi reported that 18 people were killed and 108 others wounded in overnight US strikes against Iran.
The US Central Command said its forces had 'successfully completed a wave of strikes against Iranian military targets,' citing 'recent attempted attacks by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members.'
Iran responded by attacking US bases and assets in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, and the United Arab Emirates.
Saudi Arabia accused Iran of targeting an oil tanker, the Sidr, as it transited through the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in fatalities among the vessel's crew.
