US Strikes Iranian Launchers, Sparking Counterattack
US military forces struck Iranian launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first US military action against Iran since late July. According to a statement from Tim Hawkins, U.S. Central Command spokesperson, two launchers were targeted after IRGC forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the waterway.
The IRGC responded by launching ballistic missiles at the King Hussein and Al Azraq (Muwaffaq Salti) US air bases in Jordan, according to Iranian media. President Donald Trump had previously stated that all mines had been detonated or removed from the key oil shipping route.
US officials confirmed that the strikes were carried out as a precautionary measure to protect the free flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz. Hawkins emphasized that 'U.S. forces are monitoring the area closely and remain prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through this essential waterway.'
