US Strikes Iranian Oil Tanker Near Key Export Hub
A US strike hit an Iranian oil tanker near Kharg Island in the Gulf on Saturday. According to Tasnim, which reported from the island's anchorage area, the tanker was struck by four US missiles with no casualties reported.
The crew of the tanker was evacuated after the attack. Reuters attributed the strike to US forces, while DW noted that neither side commented on the reports at the time of publication.
Kharg Island is a key oil export hub for Iran, and the attack has raised concerns about the escalation of tensions in the region. The island handles around 90% of Iran's crude exports, with Reuters reporting that flows have been disrupted since a US blockade began in mid-April.
