US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
The US military launched airstrikes on three Iranian oil tankers over the weekend, escalating tensions in the Middle East and raising concerns about global energy supply security.
The strikes followed ballistic missile attacks by Iran targeting US warships, intensifying the conflict and making a near-term nuclear deal between the US and Iran less likely, according to US Central Command.
US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said that an agreement may not be reached with Iran, and it could take until the next administration in Iran for negotiations to progress. He added that the US is pursuing diplomatic talks while preparing to eliminate Iran's nuclear weapon development capabilities without a formal deal.
