US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers Amid Escalating Military Tensions
A series of escalating military actions has unfolded in the Middle East as the United States launched strikes on three Iranian oil tankers, while Iran retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at US naval warships. According to reports, the US-approved policy involved drones targeting the vessels' engine rooms while they were anchored off Iran's coast.
The strikes hit around 100 targets, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) air defense sites, radar systems, mine-laying capabilities, communications facilities, and anti-ship cruise missile launchers. In response, Iran launched approximately 25 ballistic missiles, with about half reaching Jordanian airspace.
A CENTCOM spokesman said the US military was aware of reports of a strike hitting a wedding ceremony in Kuhestak, but denied targeting civilians. The IRGC claimed two 'non-compliant oil tankers' had caught fire and were 'rendered immobile' after striking naval mines.
