US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers in Escalating Gulf Conflict
US forces struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to IRGC ballistic missiles targeting two US warships. The CENTCOM said that two of the tankers were permanently disabled, while one was completely destroyed near Kharg Island and Jask. Admiral Brad Cooper warned that if Iran shoots at US ships, they will impose an even higher economic cost by taking out three of theirs.
The strikes are part of a 'multibillion-dollar shadow network' that funds the IRGC and its regional proxies, according to CENTCOM. The M/T Kylo, also known as Noxen, was completely destroyed in the Gulf of Oman after the crew abandoned ship, with no American personnel harmed.
Iran's state TV said four US missiles struck a tanker about six miles from Kharg Island, and CENTCOM confirmed that three tankers were targeted after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles toward two US Navy warships. Iran's joint military command warned of intensified strikes against US military vessels if the US continues to interfere with Iranian shipping.
