US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers in Escalating Persian Gulf Conflict
The United States military has escalated tensions in the Persian Gulf by striking Iranian oil tankers. According to reports, the strikes occurred after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles towards two U.S. Navy warships. In response, U.S. forces disabled the IRGC crude oil carriers M/T Downy and M/T Stark 1, and destroyed the M/T Kylo outside the Persian Gulf.
The strikes took place near Kharg Island, a key oil hub off Iran's southern coast that handles a significant portion of Iran's crude oil exports. The conflict began earlier this year with joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes, leading to numerous retaliatory attacks between the two nations.
Iran's foreign ministry condemned the U.S. actions as 'illegal and aggressive,' citing violations of the UN Charter. The U.S. Department of Defense has warned Iran against further aggression, stating that any attack on U.S. ships will result in the destruction of Iranian tankers.
