US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Alleged Missile Attack
The US military launched strikes on three Iranian oil tankers in response to an alleged missile attack by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on two US warships. According to CENTCOM, the US aircraft carrier and destroyer were patrolling regional waters when they were targeted by ballistic missiles.
No Americans were injured during the incident, but the US military took swift action in retaliation. The strikes disabled two of the tankers and rendered a third inoperable, with the crew allowed to abandon ship before it was struck.
Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, warned Iran that if they shoot at US ships, there will be an 'even higher economic cost.' He added that the US will not hesitate to defend its forces and destroy Iran's limited oil fleet if necessary.
