US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for IRGC Attack
US forces have struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to an attack by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on two American naval ships. The strike was carried out by the US Central Command, which said that the action was taken after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles at the US vessels.
'Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost, taking out three of yours,' said Admiral Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command. Iran responded by threatening intensified strikes against US military vessels in the region.
The exchange of attacks comes as tensions between the US and Iran remain high, with both sides locked in a six-month conflict that has disrupted global energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz, an important waterway that carries one-fifth of the world's oil supply, remains closed due to Iranian actions.
