US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for IRGC Missile Attacks
US forces have struck three Iranian crude oil tankers in response to an attack by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on two US Navy ships. The strikes took place in the waters around Iran, with the US Central Command (CENTCOM) saying that one tanker was disabled near Kharg Island and another near Jask.
The IRGC had launched ballistic missiles at the US warships, but they were successfully evaded by the American vessels. No personnel were harmed in the attack. However, the US took action against the Iranian oil tankers, permanently disabling one and completely destroying another.
Iran's IRGC responded to the US strikes by threatening intensified attacks on US military vessels in the region. The exchange comes as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate, with Brent crude futures reaching their highest level since July 24 at $96.28 a barrel due to global supply concerns.
