US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Navy Ship Attacks
The US military has struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to what it claims were unprovoked attacks on its navy ships. The US statement said that two Iranian oil carriers, part of a shadow network helping to fund Iran's Revolutionary Guard, were 'permanently disabled'.
The third tanker was destroyed, according to the US military. No US personnel were injured in the incident. The US claims the tankers were targeted because they were involved in funding Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard.
Iran had earlier accused the US of attacking an Iranian tanker near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf. The US statement does not mention any Iranian casualties or damage to its own ships, apart from evading multiple missile attacks.
