US Strikes Iranian Rocket Launchers in Strait of Hormuz
The US military has struck Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first attack on Iran in over a month.
The operation, carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was aimed at launching rockets with sea mines into the strait, a critical waterway through which one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas flows.
Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command, confirmed that the US military had been monitoring the area closely and remained prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through the strait.
The attack comes as part of the Trump administration's campaign to squeeze Iran's economy in an attempt to drive it back to the negotiating table.
