US Strikes Iranian Targets Amid Escalating Mideast Tensions

The US military has launched strikes against Iranian targets in response to recent attacks on American forces in the region. The US Central Command (Centcom) announced that the strikes began at noon on Tuesday and targeted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IRGC had previously fired one-way attack drones and missiles at the King Hussein and Azraq military bases in Jordan, as well as targeting Centcom forces and helicopters at Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates.

According to Centcom, the strikes follow recent attempts by the IRGC to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and American service members deployed to the region. The US has imposed a naval blockade against Iranian oil exports in the Strait and has tried to secretly ferry stranded tankers through the waterway.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Iran would only return to talks with the US under severe financial pressure, stating 'We are tracking down the IRGC's assets… We know where in the British Virgin Islands your accounts are, at these trust companies, we know the $100 million houses you have around the world, we're going to freeze those.'
