US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Attacks on Warships
A US aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer evaded multiple Iranian attacks in regional waters on Saturday, according to US Central Command. The CENTCOM statement said no American personnel were harmed during the incident.
US forces responded by striking three Iranian crude oil tankers after Iran's Revolutionary Guards launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships. The M/T Downy was permanently disabled off Kharg Island and the M/T Stark 1 near Jask, while the unladen M/T Kylo, also known as the Noxen, was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman.
CENTCOM described the three tankers as part of a 'multibillion-dollar shadow network' used to fund the IRGC and its regional proxies. Adm. Brad Cooper said that if Iran shoots at US ships, they will impose an even higher economic cost by taking out Iranian oil tankers.
