US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Escalating Conflict

The US military has launched strikes against three Iranian oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, after claiming that Navy warships were targeted with missiles. The strikes come as part of an escalating conflict between the two nations, which began six months ago and saw a lull in hostilities for a month.

According to the US military, no American personnel were hurt during the attacks, but two Iranian oil carriers were 'permanently disabled' and the third was destroyed. The tankers were part of a network helping to fund Iran's Revolutionary Guard and its armed proxies in the region.

The US Central Command said that one tanker was struck off Kharg Island, home to a terminal through which most of Iran's oil is exported, while another was hit near Jask, east of the Strait. The third unladen tanker was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman.
