US forces launched strikes on three Iranian oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, according to US Central Command. The attacks were in response to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launching ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships.

Adm. Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command, said that if Iran shoots at US ships, the US will impose an even higher economic cost by targeting Iranian oil tankers. Three Iranian tankers were hit in the strikes, including one near Kharg Island, a key oil export hub.

Tasnim, the semi-official Iranian news agency, reported earlier that four US missiles hit a tanker in the area of Kharg's anchorage. The report stated there were no casualties and the crew was being evacuated.
