US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Response to Ballistic Missile Attacks
The US military has struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to attacks on American warships with ballistic missiles. According to U.S. officials, two of the ships were permanently disabled and a third was destroyed after its crew abandoned ship.
The strikes took place off Iran's Kharg Island, near Jask, east of the Strait of Hormuz, and in the Gulf of Oman. The US military says it will not hesitate to defend American forces and will destroy Iran's oil fleet if necessary.
Iranian state media claims Tehran targeted three oil tankers and three American vessels, but these reports could not be independently confirmed. The confrontation is part of a wider conflict that began after US and Israeli operations against Iran earlier this year.
