US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Missile Attacks
On September 5, 2026, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces had struck and disabled three Iranian crude oil tankers in response to ballistic missile attacks by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on two U.S. Navy warships.
The incident occurred when IRGC fired missiles towards the American ships, but fortunately, no casualties were reported. CENTCOM described the strikes as a move to impose an economic cost on the IRGC.
According to Adm. Brad Cooper, the message to the IRGC is clear: 'If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost, taking out three of yours.'
