US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Ship Attacks
The United States military has struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to recent attacks on American ships. The vessels, including the M/T Kylo, were targeted by CENTCOM (US Central Command) after they were instructed to abandon ship.
According to CENTCOM, the action was taken in retaliation for attempted Iranian attacks against an American aircraft carrier and a destroyer. Both warships evaded the attacks without sustaining any damage or injuries.
The US military claims that it has 'permanently disabled' two of the tankers, including the M/T Downy off Kharg Island and the M/T Stark 1 near Jask. The third tanker, the M/T Kylo, sank in the Gulf of Oman after being repeatedly struck by American forces.
Iran's Foreign Ministry has condemned the strikes as 'illegal and aggressive,' while Iranian military officials warned of a stronger response if US attacks continue. However, CENTCOM asserts that its actions are meant to impose an even higher economic cost and defend American forces.
