US Targets Iran's Financial Interests in Economic Pressure Campaign
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced an economic pressure campaign against Iran on Tuesday. The goal is to target Tehran's financial interests globally and prevent other countries and companies from doing business with them.
Bessent emphasized that 'no one is above the reach of US sanctions' and that countries and entities facilitating transactions with Iran will be targeted. This includes oil, which is a major source of revenue for the country.
The campaign is dubbed 'Operation Economic Outcast' and comes nearly six months into the war between the US and Iran. The US Treasury has also imposed fresh sanctions on 60 entities, vessels, and individuals across the world, accusing them of enabling the 'Iranian regime's recklessness'.
