US Tariffs Weigh Heavy on Copper Prices
Copper prices continued to slide on Monday, extending losses from last week as uncertainty over US tariffs weighed heavily on sentiment.
The benchmark three-month copper price on the London Metal Exchange fell by 0.20% to $14,212 a metric ton by 0313 GMT, while the most-traded copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange dropped 0.39% to 108,240 yuan ($16,139.57) a metric ton.
The White House's decision on Section 232 tariffs has been delayed until September 28, adding to uncertainty over potential tariff-driven inventory flows.
Analysts at Chinese broker Everbright Futures expressed caution and bearishness on copper in the near term due to shifts in the White House's stance.
