US Unleashes 'Economic D-Day' Against Iran's Financial Networks
The United States has launched an economic campaign against Iran, dubbed Operation Economic Outcast, aimed at cutting the country off from the global financial system and disrupting its revenue networks.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the initiative as a 'zero-leakage' policy, where Washington will seek to prevent Iran from finding alternative financial channels to rebuild its capabilities.
The campaign targets five critical sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. The Treasury Department has also sanctioned nearly 60 entities, individuals, and vessels across multiple jurisdictions for their alleged involvement in illicit nuclear and missile technology procurement, cyber operations, and the generation and movement of oil revenues.
Bessent emphasized that foreign companies and financial institutions will be held accountable if they continue to conduct business with Tehran. He warned that every country would receive a defined timeline to shut down identified Iran-related activities, and the Treasury would act unilaterally if governments failed to comply.
