US Unleashes Economic Iron Fist on Tehran
The US government is considering new measures to economically isolate Iran, including pressure on China, Tehran's trading partners, financial intermediaries, and the so-called shadow fleet.
According to Bloomberg, one of the main areas for focus could be China's oil sector. China purchases over 90% of Iran's oil exports, leading Washington to consider intensifying sanctions against companies and organizations that help purchase and transport Iranian oil.
The US may also impose secondary sanctions on companies and banks that continue to cooperate with Iran, as well as increase pressure on exchange offices through which Tehran repatriates its foreign-currency earnings.
