US Unleashes 'Operation Economic Outcast' Against Iran Trading Partners
The US has launched 'Operation Economic Outcast,' a new campaign to impose secondary sanctions on countries that trade with Iran in various sectors, including cryptocurrency, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the operation, saying it aims to 'shut down every option that sustains Iran.'
The US believes Iran has been generating revenue by evading existing sanctions in these five sectors, and has identified links, facilitators, and networks used to smuggle oil and bypass restrictions.
The Treasury Department imposed new sanctions on over 60 entities, individuals, and vessels worldwide, targeting those who helped Iran acquire nuclear and missile technology, conduct cyber operations, and generate oil revenue.
Bessent warned that countries not cutting economic ties with Iran will face secondary sanctions, and President Donald Trump is urging world leaders to halt exchanges with the country.
