US-Venezuela Oil Partnership Offers Iran Revival Blueprint

The emerging partnership between the US and Venezuela could serve as a model for revitalizing Iran's vast but underinvested energy industry. Mehdi Moslehi, a risk management and energy market consultant, suggests that if a future Iranian government is able to restore ties with the West, it may adopt a similar approach.

A recent agreement between Chevron and Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA has led to increased cooperation in the Orinoco Oil Belt. On February 12, 2026, interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and US Charge d'Affaires for Venezuela Laura Dogu visited oil production facilities at the joint venture.

The partnership between the US and Venezuela has raised hopes that Iran could also benefit from increased investment in its energy sector. However, restoring ties with the West would be a significant challenge for any future Iranian government, given the country's complex relationship with international powers.
