US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned Iran of an 'economic D-Day' as the US prepares to impose sweeping sanctions aimed at cutting Iran off from international financial and commercial networks.

Bessent described the measures as 'the largest single financial attack ever deployed against a hostile nation,' with the goal of severing every source of funding flowing to the Iranian regime.

The Treasury Secretary defined complicity with Tehran as a broad range of activities, including purchasing or transporting Iranian oil, maintaining financial or commercial ties with Iran, and tolerating related illicit financial transactions.

He warned that countries continuing to do business with Iran could themselves become targets, and that sheltering terrorism would make them a 'global pariah' in Washington's eyes.
