US Wheat Assoc Success Stories Highlight Market Development Impact
U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) released its annual success stories in August 2026, highlighting the impact of market development programs on global food supply. The 16 submitted stories demonstrate the value of these programs, showcasing unique contributions to the wheat industry.
The stories detail a range of outputs and outcomes, including increased sales of U.S. products abroad, introductions of new commodities or products to markets, and long-term changes over time. One notable success story was the USW Crop Quality Seminar, which drove sales to Nigeria's largest flour miller, Flour Mills of Nigeria.
Nigeria is the largest buyer of U.S. wheat in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the seminar ensured continued market share by emphasizing U.S. wheat quality and value. The participants were funded by the Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP) to attend the seminar, where information was shared about the 2025 wheat harvest and quality.
The success stories also highlighted a historic breakthrough achieved by USW in cooperation with Indonesia's flour milling association, APTINDO. This partnership resulted in a strengthened commitment to purchase 800,000 metric tons (29.4 million bushels) of U.S. wheat.
