USDA Crop Progress Report Reveals Slow Start to Planting Season
The United States Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service released its Crop Progress report on May 28, 2024. The report detailed planting and emergence data for major crops across various states.
Corn planting in the 18 tracked states reached 70% as of May 26, 2024, up from 66% a week earlier and above the 2019-2023 average of 62%. Corn emergence stood at 40%, compared to 58% last year and an average of 50% over the same period.
Soybeans in the 18 tracked states were 68% planted, versus 83% a year earlier and a 2019-2023 average of 63%. Emergence reached 39%, down from 52% the previous year and below the average of 37%.
