USDA Crop Progress Report Shows Decline in Corn and Soybean Conditions

The US Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service released its latest Crop Progress report on August 24, 2026. The report details crop conditions and development across key states for various crops, including corn, soybeans, cotton, and sorghum.

Corn dough progress in 18 states, accounting for 91% of the 2025 corn acreage, reached 86% by August 23, 2026. This is up from 76% the previous week and above the five-year average of 82%. Corn dented progress was 41%, compared to 29% the prior week and the average of 45%. Corn mature progress stood at 6%, slightly below the average of 6%.

The corn condition was rated 59% good to excellent, down from 61% the previous week and 65% a year earlier. Soybean setting pods in 18 states, representing 96% of the 2025 soybean acreage, was 91% as of August 23, 2026. This is up from 85% the prior week and above the average of 88%. Soybean dropping leaves was 6%, compared to 4% the previous week and the average of 4%. Soybean condition was rated 61% good to excellent, down from 63% the previous week and 67% a year ago.
