USDA Lowers Corn Production and Ending Stock Estimates in September WASDE Report
The USDA released its September WASDE report, revealing updated production and ending stock estimates for corn, soybeans, and wheat in the United States.
For the 2026/2027 crop year, the agency lowered its yield and production estimates for corn by 213 million bushels to 15.8 billion, citing a reduced yield of 2.2 bushels per acre to 178.5 bpa and a fractional decrease in harvested area.
The USDA also decreased total U.S. corn use by 150 million bushels to 16.2 billion, with feed and residual use lowered by 150 million bushels to 6 billion. Exports remained unchanged at 3.3 billion bushels, while ending stocks were reduced by 86 million bushels to 1.6 billion.
In contrast, soybean production was increased by 16 million bushels to 4.5 billion, with a higher harvested area and yield of 52.8 bpa. The agency also raised the export forecast by 25 million bushels to 1.69 billion, leading to lower ending stocks of 310 million bushels.
The wheat outlook remained unchanged, with offsetting by-class changes for exports.
