USDA Releases Weekly Swine Report Showing Record Volume
The US Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service released its Weekly National Direct Swine Report for the week ending Saturday, August 8, 2026. The report covers barrow and gilt purchases across the country, with a total volume of 2,073,470 head.
Purchase types broke down as follows: producer-sold negotiated transactions totaled 28,196 head (1.33% of the weekly volume), other market formula purchases reached 121,482 head (5.73%), and swine or pork market formula transactions accounted for 588,847 head (27.77%).
The national weighted average price for negotiated carcass purchases was $98.98 per hundredweight, with regional averages ranging from $98.49 in the Eastern Cornbelt to $99.44 in Iowa.
