USDA Report Looms Large Over Grain Markets Amid Growing Uncertainty
Grain markets in Chicago finished the week with limited movement as traders positioned themselves ahead of next Wednesday's USDA World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report.
Corn futures ended nearly unchanged, while soybeans slipped modestly due to technical selling. However, winter wheat posted strong gains on technical buying fueled by geopolitical tensions and higher energy prices.
The quiet finish masks growing uncertainty over U.S. crop production, export demand, and global supply, making next week's USDA report one of the most important market events of the summer for farmers, grain merchandisers, and investors.
The USDA confirmed a sale of 11.3 million bushels of corn to Mexico, reinforcing international demand.
Analysts surveyed ahead of the August WASDE expect the national average yield at 182.4 bushels per acre, with projected production just below 16 billion bushels.
