USDA Reports Mixed Bag for Agricultural Markets
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released its August Crop Production and World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates reports, which had a mixed impact on various agricultural markets.
For corn, the USDA raised projected production estimates to 16.013 billion bushels, citing higher harvested acreage, despite lowering the national average yield estimate by 2.3 bushels per acre to 180.7 bushels.
The soybean market saw a significant boost, with the USDA projecting a record-high production of 4.519 billion bushels, driven by increased planted and harvested acreage.
In contrast, the wheat market tightened due to reduced production estimates, with the USDA lowering projected 2026-27 U.S. wheat ending stocks to 717 million bushels.
The livestock outlook turned more bearish, with the USDA lowering projected beef production by 321 million pounds and reducing steer price projections for the coming quarters.
