USDA Reports Mixed Hog Purchasing Volumes Amid September Price Fluctuations
The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service released its Daily Direct Morning Hog Report for September 14, 2026. The report tracked purchasing activity across major hog-producing regions and provided a snapshot of barrows and gilts buying trends. According to the report, estimated producer-sold negotiated volumes for live and carcass basis transactions reached 3,487 head.
Negotiated formula purchases were estimated at 2,071 head, while actual volume was 2,001 head today. Packer-sold volume across all purchase types was 26,400 head, matching the actual volume today and exceeding the 23,256 head recorded a year ago.
The national head count for negotiated carcass purchases was 405, with a weighted average price of 83.83. The Western Cornbelt reported a weighted average price of 84.61. Other market formula carcass purchases showed a national head count of 7,650, with a weighted average price of 80.82.
Negotiated live purchases in the 240 to 320-pound category showed a national head count of 1,326, with a weighted average price of 63.39. The five-day rolling average was 64.41 nationally and 63.24 in the Western Cornbelt.
