USDA Tightens Wheat Balance Sheet Amid Lower Production Forecasts
The World Agricultural Outlook Board has lowered its domestic wheat production forecast by 6 million bushels due to lower yields from this year's crop. This adjustment led to a tightening of the USDA's U.S. wheat balance sheet in August. 'Generally speaking, not too many changes in the supply and demand balance for wheat,' said Mark Czekanowski, World Agricultural Outlook Board Chair.
The reduction in production estimates resulted in a 6 million bushel decrease in ending stocks, bringing them down to 717 million bushels. This is 203 million bushels lower than last year's levels. The European Union also experienced a significant decline in wheat production, with an estimated 1.8 million tons reduced this month.
The hot and dry weather that affected the EU region during grain filling stage for wheat has led to reduced yield potential. As a result, U.S. wheat production forecasts have been lowered to 134.2 million tons, down around 11 million tons from last year.
