USDA Warns of Heat and Dryness Risks Across Major Agricultural Regions

The USDA has issued a weather alert for major US agricultural regions due to a volatile mix of heat, heavy rainfall, and dryness. The Corn Belt, Plains, Gulf Coast, and Southwest are facing sharply different conditions, with risks ranging from crop stress to heavy irrigation demand.

Across the Plains, hot and dry weather is maintaining high water requirements and stressing rangeland, pastures, and immature summer crops. In contrast, cooler temperatures and increasing rainfall are supporting fieldwork in the northern Plains.

In the Corn Belt, scattered rainfall is arriving ahead of increasingly hot weather, creating uncertainty for crops nearing the final stages of growth. Temperatures are expected to climb sharply, with highs reaching 95-100°F in the middle Mississippi Valley.
