USDT Gold and Silver Options Gain Traction in Commodity Markets
Binance listed European-style gold and silver options on July 29, cash-settled in USDT through its ADGM-regulated Nest Exchange.
The exchange said that these contracts build on the momentum of its commodity perpetuals, which were introduced earlier this year. Shunyet Jan, head of exchange and trading at Binance, stated that 'we've seen strong demand for our commodity perpetuals since introducing them earlier this year, and commodity options build on that momentum.'
Globally, central banks have been buying an average of about 1,000 tonnes of gold a year over the past four years, double the 500-tonne average of the preceding decade. This trend is expected to continue, with 89% of respondents in the World Gold Council's 2026 reserves survey expecting global official holdings to rise over the next 12 months.
The development has significant implications for regulators outside ADGM, who will need to consider how to treat these contracts. Bruno Caratori, co-founder and global chief executive of crypto asset manager Hashdex, argued that Washington's caution about crypto was partly due to concerns about losing control over the dollar.
