USGBC Trade Mission Educates Central American Buyers on US Corn and Co-Products
The US Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) recently hosted an 18-person delegation of Central American feed buyers and executives on a trade mission to Kentucky.
The visit aimed to educate participants about the U.S. corn crop, grain co-products, particularly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), and their production and use in the region.
The delegation included 18 buyers from Guatemala and other Central American countries who currently import over 1 million metric tons of corn annually, making it a significant market for U.S. DDGS.
During the week-long program, participants visited farms during corn harvest to observe production technology and quality analysis procedures.
The visit also included stops at an ethanol plant where the delegation learned about co-product production and use, including DDGS, which has supported the growth of the Central American animal feed industry, particularly in poultry.
