Uzbekistan Shifts Focus from Gas to Electricity Amid Declining Domestic Production

Uzbekistan's government is planning to shift its energy focus from natural gas to electricity. First Deputy Minister of Energy Umid Mamadaminov made this statement in response to concerns about gas supply issues during the upcoming autumn and winter.

Mamadaminov emphasized that state policy aims for a gradual phase-out of natural gas, replacing it with electrical power for domestic needs such as heating and cooking. He noted that gas supplies will decline rather than increase each year.

This initiative is being discussed against the backdrop of declining domestic production of natural gas, oil, and coal. Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev has suggested increasing the use of solar energy to meet national demand.
