Venezuela, Suriname Ink Oil and Gas Cooperation Deals
Venezuela's interim leader Delcy Rodriguez has signed several cooperation agreements with Suriname, including one to provide training for Surinamese oil and gas industry professionals.
The agreement was made during a visit to Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname. Suriname recently announced the discovery of major oil and gas deposits. The deal signals a new era of rapprochement between the two countries.
Rodriguez said that Venezuela's experience in oil and gas exploration and production would be made available to Suriname, with the goal of providing training to industry professionals.
Venezuela holds the world's largest proven oil reserves. The country has recently increased oil production by almost 30 percent and signed a deal granting Washington access to over 65 billion barrels - almost one-fifth - of its reserves.
