Venezuelan Oil Imports Surge in Texas Amid Middle East Disruptions
Texas oil refiners are importing a significant amount of Venezuelan crude oil in recent months due to disruptions in Middle Eastern supplies. The U.S. took control of Venezuela's oil industry after seizing President Nicolás Maduro, allowing imports to rise from around 110,000 barrels per day in January to 575,000 barrels per day in June.
The majority of the imported oil is being processed by Texas refineries, which are equipped to handle Venezuela's heavy crude grade. This is a welcome development for refiners who have seen supplies from Saudi Arabia and Iraq dwindle due to the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Analysts predict that Venezuelan production levels will plateau at around 1.15 million barrels per day in 2027, as international oil companies expand their operations under new agreements. However, it may take several years for production to return to pre-1990s levels of over 3 million barrels per day.
