Venture Global Rekindles US-China LNG Ties with 20-Year Deal
US-based LNG producer Venture Global has signed a new 20-year Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with China Gas Holdings Limited, one of China's major natural gas operators. The deal will see Venture Global supply 0.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) of US liquefied natural gas to China starting in 2030.
The agreement marks a significant development in the resumption of US LNG imports by China, which halted all deliveries in 2025 amid escalating trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.
According to tracking data compiled by shipping and trade monitors, US LNG shipments to China fell by 71.7% year-over-year to just 0.1 million tonnes during the first seven months of 2026, accounting for a mere 0.2% of China's total LNG imports over that period.
