Vermont Gas Prices Reach Record-High Over Labor Day Weekend
Record-breaking gas prices in Vermont reached an all-time high of $4.29 per gallon over Labor Day weekend, according to data from the American Automobile Association.
This surge is largely attributed to international conflicts, specifically the U.S.-Iran war and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which have caused the price of a barrel of crude oil to soar to over $90, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The cost of regular gasoline in Vermont has been increasing since June 2022, when prices briefly topped $5 per gallon due to the invasion of Ukraine, said Suzanne Grace, a spokesperson for AAA Northern New England.
Vermont's rurality and relative scarcity of stations contribute to higher gas prices compared to neighboring states Maine and New Hampshire, as well as its 35-cent-per-gallon gas tax.
